QED National 2005 IT Survey: IT Professionals Voice Their Opinions
We are pleased to announce that QED National is conducting its first public IT Survey, in which IT professionals will have the ability to express their thoughts on specific topics. We hope that the survey will provide IT employers with powerful information to help them make important hiring decisions. IT professionals who wish to take the survey may do so until July 31, 2005. QED National will release the surveys findings, along with our recommendations, in September. We invite all IT professionals to voice their opinions and be a part of our survey, please click here. Featured Article: According to Crains NY Business, about 20% of New York metro area, chief information officers anticipate adding full-time information technology staffers during the third quarter, while 4% expect to cut IT jobs. This 16% net result tops the second-quarter figure by three percentage points and is five points higher than the national average. Consultants as well as full-time employees are being added to these organizations. As a firm that places both consultants and full-time employees, we have seen that the most successful placements and consulting opportunities exist when productivity and professional development are maximized. When preparing to hire IT professionals as either full-time employees or consultants, QED National recommends that you focus on the following criteria. Determine what is needed: Before starting the process of hiring somebody for a new or existing position, be sure to know what you need. The more you understand about the job you will be hiring for, the better you will be able to assess the right candidates for the position. Use a job description: A job description sets out the responsibilities for a particular position. It indicates the qualifications and requirements for the position and outlines how the position relates to others in the firm. In a clear concise manner, the job description should indicate:
If you are looking to be considered for a new opportunity, be sure to pay close attention to the job description. This is your opportunity to evaluate how your experiences can contribute to a new team and learn how the organization is structured. Use the right resources to find the right candidate: Its easier to shorten the recruiting cycle when you use a team of professionals who understand your needs. When viewing a candidates resume for the first time, be sure to understand how this candidate can help build your team. At QED National, we pride ourselves on finding the right fit for both our clients and our candidates. Our The QED National process includes conducting technical assessments, in-person interviews, phone consultations and reference checks. Our clients do not see a resume without having completed these steps. Candidates should prepare their references and be prepared to provide this information to any potential staffing team or employer so that the recruiting cycle can be shortened. A complete package counts: While technical skills such as experience and certifications are extremely important for specific positions, soft skills such as interpersonal skills, team building ability and negotiation skills can be just as important. Be sure to ask for examples of team building successes during the interview process. If you are a candidate looking for a new position, be sure to have an example or two of soft skills on hand. Its very important to show that you are a team player and can work well with others. We wish everyone success as they build their teams in the coming months! |
