| Survey: QED National 2005 IT Professionals Survey 1st Survey to see what IT professionals are thinking The QED National 2005 IT Professionals Survey discovered that IT professionals want to work in organizations where their contributions are vital to the organizations success. While salary and benefits are important, IT professionals are looking to work where they are appreciated and rewarded for their hard work and where job security and loyalty is important. QED National surveyed IT professionals on a variety of topics ranging from job satisfaction to how they look for new employment opportunities. While other IT surveys have focused on IT industry trends, this survey centered on the IT professional and their desires. Although organizations focus on the right technology to support their business systems, it is not enough, says Colleen Molter, president of QED National. Successful organizations understand that the right team is more important than the right technology and that ultimately good teams select good technologies. This survey identifies the key qualities required to keep good people engaged in an IT organization. QED National discovered IT professionals are keen on job satisfaction and job security. Seventy percent of those surveyed would recommend their company as a good place to work. 57% would like to be working at their company two years from now. However, IT professionals do not feel secure in their jobs. While most IT professionals are satisfied with their company and the work they do (76%), this does not stop them from actively looking for new opportunities (62%). IT Professionals want to work with smart and ambitious people on challenging projects and would shy away from working with private and quiet people. Salary continues to be an important part of an employment decision, but the ability to balance life with benefits, flexible hours and vacation is also important. When looking for new opportunities, the right team is also important. Forty-four percent look to employment agencies or recruiters when job hunting. Quality trumps quantity when selecting a recruiting firm. Factors they consider include quality of open positions, quantity of positions, recruiting firm integrity, personal attention, and the recruiters understanding of the companys corporate culture.
